Schuyler Van Alen is confused about what is happening to her. Her veins are starting to turn blue, and she's starting to crave raw meat. Soon, her world is thrust into an intricate maze of secret societies and bitter intrigue. Schuyler has never been a part of the trendy crowd at her prestigious New York private school. Now, all of a sudden, Jack Force, the most popular guy in school, is showing an interest in her. And when one of the popular girls is found dead, Schuyler and Jack are determined to get to the bottom of it.
Schuyler wants to find out the secrets of the mysterious Blue Bloods. But is she putting herself in danger? Melissa de la Cruz's vampire mythology, set against the glitzy backdrop of New York City, is a juicy and intoxicating read.

Customer Rating: Summary: helped me cope.. Comment: The only reason I even picked up this book was to help me cope with the end of the Twilight saga..I was't expecting to become ginuinely interested in this series. Howvere, this book was pretty awesome. It wasn't a passionate love story like Twilight, but it was really cool nonetheless..and had a very interesting historical aspect tht was not in Twilight. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to read Masquerade!
Customer Rating: Summary: a bit anemic Comment: Schuyler Van Alen has never fit in with her rich, snotty classmates and is happy being an outcast. Everything changes when she starts craving raw meat, having mysterious flashbacks and realizes that she has more in common with the popular crowd than she ever would have guessed. Schuyler is a vampire, just like many other "blue bloods" that live in New York City and pretend to be human. The vampire world that is created in this book is interesting, from their retractable fangs to the connection to the lost colony of Roanoke.
Blue Bloods reminded me of the Gossip Girl books, but with the main characters pausing to suck blood in between their manicures and fabulous parties. There is a lot of brand name dropping and descriptions of people's outfits sprinkled throughout the book. The frothy fun of meeting other vampires, modeling photo shoots, and navigating Schuyler's uptight private school were the best parts of the novel. Unfortunately, the action part was much weaker. Schuyler and her friends are being hunted by a mysterious enemy, but the attacks and dramatic chases are not really described, but just explained in dialog after they happen. This drains the suspense out of the events as quickly as a vampire sucking blood.
Overall, this is a fluffy take on the teen vampire genre. If you want more depth, try the Vampire Academy series or the Vampire Knight manga series.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not as great as it could have been. Comment: Okay, when I can stop reading a page and complain about the mechanics of a book, it should be a "first draft" not a finished book.
This book didn't get interesting until the last two or three chapters, and the predictability of it was staggering. I'll read "masquerade" but only because I'd already bought it when I got this book, and I never leave a book I own unread. BUT here's hoping that book 2 is halfway decent... perhaps book 1 should simply have been longer... because the ending sounds more like the end of a chapter in the middle of a book than the transition to a new book in the series. *sigh* like the perfect point for a commercial in a tv show, but not an adequate cliff-hanger for its end.
Customer Rating: Summary: Eh.... Comment: So the thing is, I was pretty bored through most of this book. The history part kind of threw me I also wasn't that crazy about the fact that vamps are reincarnated souls. Honestly it didn't do a whole lot for me and took me a lot longer to get through than most books. I plan to read the second one with hopes of it being better. The other thing that frustrated me a great deal was every other page we were hearing about what the characters were wearing (in great detail), it seemed like overkill. However, I do love vampires so I can't give it an entirely bad rating.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best part was the Synopsis Comment: I read the plot of the book and thought it sounded entertaining. The writing is horrid, there's no flow, the story never actually progresses.... It is the worst "writing" I have ever read. The only reason I finished reading it was because it was so short and I bought the book. Don't waste your time, this wont entertain you in the least.
