Boys don’t keep diaries—or do they?
The launch of an exciting and innovatively illustrated new series narrated by an unforgettable kid every family can relate to
It’s a new school year, and Greg Heffley finds himself thrust into middle school, where undersized weaklings share the hallways with kids who are taller, meaner, and already shaving. The hazards of growing up before you’re ready are uniquely revealed through words and drawings as Greg records them in his diary.
In book one of this debut series, Greg is happy to have Rowley, his sidekick, along for the ride. But when Rowley’s star starts to rise, Greg tries to use his best friend’s newfound popularity to his own advantage, kicking off a chain of events that will test their friendship in hilarious fashion.
Author/illustrator Jeff Kinney recalls the growing pains of school life and introduces a new kind of hero who epitomizes the challenges of being a kid. As Greg says in his diary, “Just don’t expect me to be all ‘Dear Diary’ this and ‘Dear Diary’ that.” Luckily for us, what Greg Heffley says he won’t do and what he actually does are two very different things.
Since its launch in May 2004 on Funbrain.com, the Web version of Diary of a Wimpy Kid has been viewed by 20 million unique online readers. This year, it is averaging 70,000 readers a day.

Customer Rating: Summary: diary of a wimpy kid Comment: Diary of a wimpy kid was the best book I have ever read in my life! it is great! and it is perfect, with not one thing wrong with it I chose it as the best book I have ever read !woo hoo!
Customer Rating: Summary: Fun to read Comment: I got this for my 8yr old who mostly likes to read scary stories like Goosebumps. He finished the book in one and a half day and kept coming to me to read me the funniest parts. Just about anytime I saw him reading this book he had a smile on his face and now he can't wait to read the second book in series. I read some of it too and it is so much fun.
This is the first time ever he preferred to read a book than to play video games...shocking!
Customer Rating: Summary: From J. Kaye's Book Blog Comment: This book is about Greg Heffley's journal. The reason he has a journal is to answer people's questions when he becomes famous. The book doesn't say how he'll become famous, but he is confident that it will happen. Much of his journal is about the pranks his older brother pulls on him, how his parents embarrass him and his school mishaps.
My 11 y/o said, "I thought this was a hilarious book. It kept me laughing."
Customer Rating: Summary: My 3rd Graders LOVE this book Comment: I am currently a student teacher in a 3rd grade classroom. Several weeks ago we had a bookfair at school. One set of books that EVERY other student walked out of the fair with were these wimpy kid books. I figured if that many of them wanted them then I probably should get a copy for my classroom.
In my classroom everyday the students are read a chapter of a book. About 3 weeks ago we finished Because of Winn Dixie and we needed to start a new one. The students were very vocal that they wanted to read this book. Every day they can not wait to be read to and they never want me to stop reading. The students who have the book keep their copy at school so they can follow along and look at the pictures, which are so funny. I find both myself and my classroom teacher chuckling at several of the things in this book. They want us to continue with the blue one, when we finish the red one.
I definetly recomend this book, kids LOVE IT.
Customer Rating: Summary: Grandson LOVED it Comment: I took my 8 year old grandson book shopping and he picked out Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He finished it in two days. Diary of a Wimpy Kid Roderick Rules came next and he read it just as fast. He is now impatiently waiting for the 3rd book in the series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Last Straw. I've never seen him so enthralled as he is with this series.
