Gemma Doyle is looking forward to a holiday from Spence Academy—spending time with her friends in the city, attending balls in fancy gowns with plunging necklines, and dallying with the handsome Lord Denby. Yet amid these distractions, her visions intensify—visions of three girls dressed in white, to whom something horrific has happened that only the realms can explain.
The lure is strong, and soon Gemma, Felicity, and Ann are turning flowers into butterflies in the enchanted world that Gemma takes them to. To the girls' great joy, their beloved Pippa is there as well, eager to complete their circle of friendship.
But all is not well in the realms—or out. Kartik is back, desperately insisting to Gemma that she must bind the magic, lest colossal disaster befall her. Gemma is willing to comply, for this would bring her face-to-face with her late mother's greatest friend, now Gemma's foe—Circe. Until Circe is destroyed, Gemma cannot live out her destiny. But finding Circe proves a most perilous task. . . .
This sumptuous companion to A Great and Terrible Beauty teems with Victorian thrills and chills that play out against the rich backdrop of 1895 London, a place of shadows and light . . . where inside great beauty can lie a rebel angel.

Customer Rating: Summary: ENTHRALLING Comment: Honestly, A Great & Terrible Beauty (book 1) had me dozing off at times. I began Rebel Angels (book 2) expecting something like the first book, but I was thrilled to find myself mistaken. RA had me enthralled from beginning to end -- fast pace, amazing plot, adventurous characters, dark twists = A MUST READ! Looking back on it now, I would say that A Great & Terrible Beauty is essential to read before Rebel Angels, and despite my previously stated opinion of book 1, it plays an imperative role in the sequence of the story.
If you are a teenage girl who enjoys fantasy, a bit of magic (and some hints of evil here and there ;D), this is the trilogy for you! Oh, and if you didn't catch on -- Rebel Angels is amazing.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Series Comment: I bought the third book at Wal-Mart not knowing it was the last one in the set. I read the first few pages and had to buy the other two. Wal-Mart didn't carry the first to anymore and I live too far from a bookstore so got them here. I have to say that this set was a fast and fun read. I read each book in less than a day...all three books are pretty thick too!
Customer Rating: Summary: Can't recommend it Comment: I read this because I work in a bookstore and am often asked for recommendations. Based on reviews here, this is wildly popular.
I may have grown up on Nancy Drew and Laura Ingalls, but I realize times have changed. Even so, I won't be able to recommend a book where one father is a child molester and the other an opium addict. This book could have stood without those subject lines. The trouble with bringing in the molestation issue, is that it should have been resolved in some way. Instead, the victim makes her friend keep her secret then they just go on about their business, and each go on back home. You can't mention a subject like that and then just let it fade off as if the author forgot she brought it up. I just found it disturbing.
Customer Rating: Summary: My Favorite in the Trilogy Comment: This book was my favorite in the Gemma Doyle trilogy. The plot twists and character development make this particular book a real winner for me. Gemma really starts to grow into herself in this book and she learns a lot more about the people in her life. Ballroom scenes juxtaposed with Gemma's magical world in the realms create create tension in Gemma's life as she learns how to deal with these different sides of herself. If you enjoy romance, magic, and adventure in a victorian setting you will love this book.
Customer Rating: Summary: Awesome book! Comment: I LOVED this book! The first book in this series (A Great and Terrible Beauty) was a little slow, but this one is absolutely captivating! Gemma is easy to like and easy to realte to. The story is interesting, the descriptions are beautiful, and the characters are complex and wonderfully developed. This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I wasn't sure after finishing the first one, but I decided to give this one a shot. I am so glad I did! Definitely, read this book!!
